[ S37 ] Scenario Thirty-Seven: "Gun of Navaronov"—Poland, Fall 1944
During an active patrol in "no man’s land," Sergeant Navaronov becomes separated and stumbles upon an abandoned German infantry gun. Finding his way back to his unit, he recalls only the gun’s general location. His claim that a concussion affected his memory is undercut by a distinct aroma of alcohol. Ordered to lead a recovery detachment, it would be a wise career move to relocate and capture this prize. The local German regimental commander is of the old school where losing a gun is a blot on one’s honor. The gun was abandoned during the last retreat and its crew lost. He has a general idea of its location and sends a recovery team to bring back the gun. This is a “meeting engagement” and neither side is the attacker or defender.
