Holding ground and eliminating the enemy is the key to victory, however just as that epic struggle waged by cold soldiers had in the snow covered woods you have to choose and hold the right ground in order to win.

Objectives are secretly selected by each player after the first cards are dealt and your strating objectives are in hand. But not all the objects are out to start with and holding ground early can center attacks on your limited forces.
